The Solana blockchain community has something exciting on the horizon. On July 10, 2024, Solana developers will be scared because of the most critical bugs in the new “Firedancer” validator client that they fix since they could get up to $1 million. This bug bounty program, organized by Jump Crypto and held on Immunefi, will last for 42 days and will end on August 21, 2024.
Firedancer, developed by Jump Crypto, is a much-awaited validator client to boost Solana’s network performance. The most important thing is that doing it will enable the transmission of money and the construction of blocks more efficiently in Solana’s 60 billion network. In contrast to the Google-made “QUIC” protocol, which has been having difficulties due to heavy network traffic, Firedancer guarantees better stability and faster transactions.
Major Rewards for Critical Bugs
Participants in the bounty program can earn rewards from a pool of $1 million, with individual bounties going up to $1 million, paid in USD Coin (USDC). This is the first bug bounty program for Firedancer, giving an example of the critical role of security in the new client’s developing stage.
Jump Crypto’s pseudonymous engineer, Cantelope Peel, who announced the bounty on July 3, 2024, has been very determined about this initiative. According to Peel, the team is still working on — and actively testing — its first versions of the Solana consensus and fork choice algorithms.
“We are also working on live voting and various other little bits around that,” Peel remarked.
Firedancer is expected to handle high trading volumes by implementing the C and C++ languages, which could potentially speed up the transaction speed of the Solana network.
Participation and Bug Reporting
Developers who want to join the project must complete the Know-Your-Client (KYC) procedure. After that, they will be added to Immunefi’s Discord platform to chat with the Firedancer technical team and submit new issues. Any problems identified during the contest will be looked into and commented on within a 24-hour window on weekdays.
This initiative follows Firedancer first being deployed on a Solana testnet in November 2023, with development efforts dating back to January 2023. Although Peel has also proposed a similar validator client for Ethereum, not much progress has been reported on that front.
By encouraging developers to identify and report bugs, Solana aims to strengthen the security and efficiency of its network and ensure a robust blockchain ecosystem for the future.
